About the role and a summary of key duties & responsibilities
This challenging role will offer the opportunity to get directly involved in supporting projects across Europe. We work on a wide range of problems from novel device modelling, complex analogue circuits, reprogrammable FPGA based systems to large digital ICs implemented at very small transistor geometries.
Whatever your specific interest, analogue, digital, devices etc. you will gain valuable experience and be allowed to demonstrate your initiative and apply your skills to challenging problems.
We recruit the best students and further opportunities may then exist for you to return to STFC after completion of your studies as a Graduate Microelectronics Engineer. To apply for this placement, we are looking for the following:
Key - Shortlisting (S), at Interview (I) or both (S&I)
Essential:
- Currently enrolled on an undergraduate degree course and returning to university/studies to complete your undergraduate degree following the placement (S)
- Are required or have requested to take an industrial placement year (S)
- Have the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the placement (S)
- Able to commence employment in summer 2025 (S)
- Have a minimum of three A-levels at grade C or above one of which must be mathematics, or alternative qualifications of an equivalent level (S)
- Have an excellent understanding of fundamental principles of basic electronic circuits (S&I)
- Enjoy solving challenging electronic engineering problems and have a genuine interest in discovering more about silicon chips and microelectronics design tools (S&I)
- A desire to improve your own understanding of microelectronics design, and support the learning of others (S&I)
- Diligent, reliable and hardworking with good social skills and the ability to identify and communicate relevant technical information in English (S&I)
