  • Providing innovative and cost-effective mechanical solutions to engineering problems and optimisation of existing systems
  • Production of CAD models, manufacturing drawings and design validation through calculations and FEA
  • Generation of documentation to support designs, assist assembly, report analysis and test results, and present at project reviews
  • Working in multi-disciplinary project teams from conceptual design through to delivery
  • Working within the department’s ISO 9001 Quality Management System
  • Staff management, project management and management of safety.

Essential Shortlisting Criteria:

  • Level 6 (B.Eng. level or equivalent or higher) qualification in a mechanical engineering-related discipline
  • Significant experience in mechanical engineering design within industry that relates to a scientific field or related technologies delivery and evidence of responsibility (budgets/management/risk/safety)
  • Significant experience in the specification and procurement of engineering systems
  • Ability to provide creative ideas and cost-effective solutions to challenging design problems, with considerable experience in 3D CAD and producing manufacturing drawings that conform to BS8888
  • Good working knowledge of health, safety and environment in a design and project delivery environment
  • Excellent communications skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts effectively
  • Excellent working knowledge of FEA
  • Previous experience in the management of projects and/or people.
